Paperwork (US) Filing Support

Homeschool paperwork varies greatly from state to state. Some states require no notification at all while others require several filings each year. In an effort to help families stay focused on the content and day to day experience of their homeschool journey, our paperwork filing pro, Jenni Mahnaz, currently offers homeschool paperwork services for families residing in New York and California (ask us about other states!).

Jenni has extensive experience creating LOIs, IHIPS, quarterly reports, and end of year assessments in NYS state – one of the most highly regulated states in regards to homeschooling – and is happy to offer this service to families feeling overwhelmed by the paperwork requirements.

Each family seeking paperwork support will receive a questionnaire that will provide Jenni with the necessary information to create their paperwork.

  • NY residents will then be given the opportunity to look over the paperwork and ask for edits before submitting their paperwork to the state.
  • California residents will receive a receipt of submission for their filing.

About Jenni Mahnaz

Jenni Mahnaz

Jenni Mahnaz has over a decade of experience in self-directed education and other alternative educational philosophies. Having helped many young people design their own educational experiences in various settings, Jenni eventually ventured into consultations for families looking for a unique and intrinsically motivated educational experience for their young people.

She has worked closely with Manhattan Free School (now ALC NYC), Brooklyn Apple Academy, and ALC Mosaic in Charlotte, NC, as well as many families taking a home based approach to education. She also regularly contributes to Tipping Points, the online publication for The Alliance For Self Directed Education.

In addition to a wealth of experience in the self-directed world, Jenni has also worked in various conventional schooling models and has a unique ability to explore and integrate practices and systems most people are already familiar with into a whole new way of pursuing education.

It was after a brief stint as a Special Education Educator in the NYC public school system that Jenni discovered self-directed education.

Years of frustration over pointless power struggles, meaningless assignments, odd philosophies, and unrealistic demands within the conventional system finally came to a head when a teenager she was tasked with caring for simply could not function as expected within that system.

After many months and much creative problem solving, Jenni discovered self-directed education and realized it aligned much more fully to her core beliefs about learning, children, and the basic human existence and that, more importantly, it better served the child in front of her.

Beyond her passion for self-directed education, Jenni is also a pro at NY state homeschool paperwork, translating the way kids actually learn into language the DOE understands, supporting the “deschooling” process for new self-directed families, and helping families explore and challenge long held assumptions about what education “should” look like.
